“For every minute spent organizing, an hour is earned.” – Benjamin Franklin
I have researched and used many planners in my lifetime. Student planners, business planners, and mom-friendly planners. You name the brand, and I’ve likely tried it. Each brand will have certain features that I love, as well as a few that I don’t particularly care for.
Recently, I have been on the hunt for a much-needed business planner to keep my work and personal life in order. Last February, I decided to become an Independent Specialist for EVER Skin. I have been fortunate that the business has taken off in 2018 and our team has grown substantially over the past year. In addition, an old friend and I started a new construction business, Dakota Matting and Environmental Solutions, last Summer. It, too, is doing well and growing at an appreciable pace. Thirdly, I am still trying to find any spare time I can to write more regularly here on my blog, Petite Chic Mom.
This is all in addition to my full-time job as physician, and lastly, as we all can agree, my hardest job of all – motherhood! So my life can get a little hectic, and without a planner, I could very easily slip into non-productive mode – never accomplishing my goals, not growing my businesses, and not being truly present with my family.
While there is no perfect business planner out there, I have found a pretty good one – the Daily Greatness Business Planner. I have tried using it for a couple of months now, and I find it to be very comprehensive. It contains everything you would need to start a new business or grow your current one. In addition to the standard monthly calendars and weekly spreads of your daily schedules, it is equipped with so much more to ensure you succeed in your business.
“A goal without a deadline is simply a dream.” – Napolean Hill
There are weekly check-ins, challenges, and planners to keep you firmly on track. However, it also contains daily inspirational quotes and thought-provoking questions to guide you into successful thinking patterns. I find these, in particular, very effective.
There are finance and budget worksheets, as well as goal and action planners.
“All you need is the plan, the road map, and the courage to press on to your destination.” – Earl Nightingale
I love the quarterly assessments. These 90-Day high-level check-ins and challenges keep you committed, accountable, and motivated to achieve your goals. Each stage lays the foundation for staying true to your purpose or “why” as an entrepreneur, reaching your goals, expanding your mind and growing your business.
This comprehensive journal covers it all – scheduling, financing, goals, and personal growth.
There are only a few things I don’t like:
First, I would prefer a thicker, higher-quality paper stock. My pet peeve is ink and writing being visible on the back side of the page. I’d like to be able to use thicker point pens, fine markers, and highlighters without them bleeding through to the other side.
Secondly, although some would argue that a flexible cover allows for easier carrying and handling, I prefer hardback covers for more durability and longer lifespan. It also just looks aesthetically nicer.
Lastly, although a benefit to some would be that this planner is super comprehensive, I find it to be a little too superfluous and overwhelming for me and my specific business. For example, I keep my finances and budget on a separate software program. The planner contains too many pages to fill in, and thus I end up leaving many of them blank, because of lack of time, as well as not finding all the sections to be necessary.
However, overall, I think it is one of the best business planners out there. It will support you in creating the habits of a highly effective entrepreneur.
