Last Sunday, I had the opportunity to partner with Alice and Olivia to host a fabulous Mommies Brunch at their brand new store in the Miami Design District. Launched in 2002, Alice and Olivia is a brand that allows customers to express their personal style. The clothing line incorporates pieces that are playful and flirtatious, as well as elegant and seductive, which epitomize the personality of its founder, Stacey Bendet.
Stacey Bendet has built a $200 million business in just over a decade. In 2001, she graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, an Ivy League school, and starting building flash websites for fashion companies. One day, while working for a start-up clothing brand, she asked one of the pattern makers to teach her how to make her own pair of pants. She wanted to create a pair of pants that would elongate the legs and raise the butt. These black, slim-fitting pants were a huge hit everywhere she went, and she thought, “I could really make these.”
She entered into a partnership with a college classmate who took responsibility for the operations, and the brand was named after both of their mothers: Alice and Olivia. In 2002, she launched a 20-piece collection at the Russian Tea Room in NYC. Andrew Rosen, of the clothing line Theory, fell in love with her designs, invested into the company, and became her mentor. Since then, the brand has grown into a full lifestyle collection of ready-to-wear, gowns, shoes, accessories, and handbags. Bendet incorporates bold colors, unique prints, and eclectic details to create vibrant and dynamic pieces.
Alice and Olivia has gained a huge following and is beloved by celebrities everywhere. It is available in over 800 select department stores and specialty stores around the globe, such as Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Harrods, and Bergdorf Goodman. There are now over 30 Alice and Olivia boutiques around the world, including a dozen here in the United States, mainly in New York, California, and Connecticut. Two months ago, they opened their first Florida store in the Miami Design District. Aren’t we so lucky here in South Florida!
So, last Sunday, I was so excited to host this fabulous fashion event with local mommies in the area. I have been a long-time fan of Alice and Olivia, previously buying her apparel at Neimans and Saks. I love the unique designs and eye-catching styles, and the fact that the pieces are also petite-friendly. Thus, I was beyond thrilled to find out they opened here in Miami.
At the brunch, we sipped on endless champagne and mimosas. Brunch was provided by a local bakery and included delicious apple turnovers, chocolate croissants, “duffins,” mini key lime pies and coconut cakes, fresh berries, and bruschetta. We received valuable styling tips and checked out the newest pieces of the season. It was fabulous event.
The current location at 106 NE 40th St. Miami, FL 33137 is a temporary pop-up boutique. A permanent, 2-story flagship store will open down the street some time next year. We cannot wait.
Go check them out, and for something special, tell them you heard about them from Petite Chic Mom! 🙂
