You heard it right. Camo is making a serious comeback. The old-school Army-inspired apparel is popping up all over the runway, and for a good reason. It’s not about conforming to the latest street fad. Camo gives off the vibe of strength and determination, and it celebrates the independent and active woman. It’s also a way for some to show their appreciation for the men and women who risk their lives for our safety and freedom.

Camo Paired with Army Green Leggings, Black Leather Boots, and Faux Fur Jacket

Unlike the military’s use of camouflage to blend in, the camo fashion trend is all about standing out. Incorporating camouflage prints into your fall neutrals is the perfect way to take your weekend wardrobe from boring to edgy. Camo will give you instant street cred with a side of swagger. It’s perfect for shopping, brunching, and running those errands.

Dress it up or down, it’s a piece you can have fun with. For warmer days, you can keep it super casual by pairing a camo top with a mini skirt or a pair of denim cut-offs. For cooler autumn temperatures, wear the camo top with skinny black jeans or a pair of leggings. Throw on a jacket to add layers. If you’re wearing baggy camo pants, add some heels for a feminine touch.  If you’re sporting an oversized camo jacket, wear it with hot pants and boots.

Mixing a Fabrics: Faux Fur Jacket with Leather Boots

The important thing is to keep it simple so you don’t look like a soldier. Only one piece in your outfit should be camo – whether it’s the top, the bottom, or the jacket – but never two. You should also mix neutral colors (and not go monochromatic with all black or all khaki, for example) and mix the types of fabrics (cotton, leather, sueude, faux fur, etc).

The Details

For example, in the first outfit, I wore black leather boots but had a faux fur jacket, rather than a leather jacket. Too much black leather would have made it look like I was going to fly a helicopter into combat. In the 2nd outfit, I decided to switch in a black leather jacket, but then paired it with light-colored suede boots instead of the black leather boots.
