Jumpsuits are an instant outfit that are insanely stylish. If you’ve been on the fence about jumpsuits, let this post convince you that jumpsuits are a must-have in your wardrobe. This one-step outfit is the perfect chic alternative to your standard dress.
In the past, many women thought of jumpsuits as 1970’s-inspired utilitarian uniforms, but they have come a long way in the fashion lexicon. Jumpsuits gradually transformed into super trendy pieces, but were mainly worn in casual settings. Nowadays, these elegant pieces can be seen all over the red carpet and on major runways.
The jumpsuit is flattering on everyone, no matter what your body type is. It’s all about finding the right one for you.
For shorter women, choose jumpsuits with a high waistline and long inseams along the pants, which will make you look taller. Pick one with wide or flare leg openings that you can wear over a pair of heals or wedges for added height.
If you’re pear-shaped (small bust and waist, and wider in the hip and buttocks) look for jumpsuits with a fitted top to accentuate your tiny waist and with loose pants that glide over your bottom half.
If you have an apple shape (broad shoulders, larger breast and tummy, narrow hips, and small legs) opt for jumpsuits that belt or tie at the waist to help create an illusion of a smaller waistline. You can go for straight leg or skinny pants because they will compliment your small legs. A deep V neck is also great for your bust.
For resort and vacation, the jumpsuit offers not only an easy one-piece outfit for day, but also a chic option to transition into evening. For daytime, pair it with stylish sandals. For nighttime, accessorize with jewelry and sexy heels.
There is an effortless chicness of an evening jumpsuit. The tailored all-in-one seamlessly works for evening cocktails or black-tie galas. For the next wedding or ball you’re attending, skip the evening gown and wear an elegant jumpsuit that is cut long and sleek. Look for ones with a halter top or deep V-neck, which are very chic, and can be accessorized with drop earrings or statement necklaces, respectively.
I’m wearing a jumpsuit from Alexis, a womenswear line established by mother-daughter team Ana and Alexis Barbara. Alexis was initially driven to become a designer by an unforgettable family vacation spent island-hopping in the Mediterranean. Before departing, she designed herself a small collection to wear throughout the trip, which drew a following. In 2009, she launched her first full Resort Collection with her mother out of their home office.
Their designs embrace all femininity, sophistication and elegant ease. Alexis draws inspiration from “the women of Miami. There’s something about the cultural mix, sexiness, and emerging art scene I’m surrounded by every day in Miami that continually inspires me.”
I am wearing the Alexis Maylina Lace Sleeveless Jumpsuit in an elegant ivory color. It is also available in black. Jumpsuits in black or white shades are not only sophisticated, but also perfect for showing off accessories and jewelry. Given the warm weather all year long in South Florida, white is not just a summer staple, but is, in fact, worn year-round here.
I also chose the ivory/white because it really showed off the richly-decorated floral lace detailing throughout, the sheer lace back, and the romantic satin tie belt. The jumpsuit is not made for the very petite. I did have to take the waist in an inch and have the bottom hemmed a few inches, but it was well worth it for this beautiful jumpsuit.
I also like this jumpsuit because of the halter top, which is not only an elegant neck line, but it also accentuates the shoulders and elongates my shorter arms.

It may have started as a trend, but I think the jumpsuit is here to stay.
Most clothing websites now have a category for jumpsuits, proving that the piece has earned its spot as a wardrobe staple.
If you want to wear something fresh, chic and sophisticated, then make the leap and purchase yourself a jumpsuit.
