Memorial Day Weekend

White Front-tie Crop Top and Floral Crochet Skirt

Memorial Day weekend! It’s a time to honor those who bravely served our country and it’s the unofficial start of summer, my absolute favorite season of the year. It’s the return of summer ales, barbecues, late sunsets, and long days at the beach. This year, Memorial Day also marks the launch of my blog and I couldn’t be more excited.

South Florida has warm weather nearly year-round, but summertime really brings on the heat and humidity. To stay cool, light and airy clothing is a must. Plenty of refreshing mojitos on hand can help, as well.

Knit and crochet clothing, a trend straight from the 1970’s, have returned as one of this summer’s must-haves. From tops and skirts to bikinis and cover-ups, they have a certain retro sexiness to them and a little bit of boho-chicness. Embrace the heat in these open weaves that provide just the right amount of peek-a-boo.

White clothing is a summer staple, of course. Not only is it functional in helping to keep you cool, but it’s a classic color that imparts simplicity yet elegance.

Cream Crochet Crop Top Tank and White Wrap Crop Top

Cream-colored Crochet Crop Top and White Wrap

I’m wearing a cream-colored crochet crop top. I layered it with a little, white, front-tie wrap. I love that the sleeves are flowy and run mid-length to the elbows (just enough to hide the upper arms, but not long-sleeve which would get hot), and that the wraps are long enough for an optional double wrap to cover the midriff. These details add a little dressiness to this cropped wrap.

White Floral Crochet Asymmetric Midi Skirt

The skirt is a beautifully-knitted white floral with a beige slip underneath. The asymmetric skirt has a more sophisticated midi length, but the slip beneath is a mini, showing just enough leg and allowing you to keep cool in the heat.

The entire outfit is “Rumor Boutique”, an Australian clothing brand that can be found in the U.S. at LF Stores. LF stores can be found throughout south Florida, California, New York, and Connecticut, as well as in Boston and Dallas.

The shoes are Steve Madden’s Stecy. Neutral-colored shoes (with shades that best match your skin tone) can help make your legs appear longer. I also like the Stecy because of it’s simple, thin straps and skinny heel. When you’re petite, it’s better to avoid big, bulky shoes, which can overwhelm a shorter frame. It’s all about keeping things proportionate – people with smaller frames, shoes with less material. This weekend, Steve Madden has up to 25% off with the code SUN.

LOVE this old trend form the 70’s! Crochet skirts are always classic, but this one has the today twist of sexiness. The front-tie wrap is such an awesome fine too..perfect for Florida heat. Just the right amount of cover-up yet still breathable.
